Women’s Golf Finishes Second in NSIC Championships

SMITHVILLE, Mo. – On Sunday afternoon, the Augustana women's golf team concluded its time at the NSIC Championships held at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex with a second-place finish. Shannon McCormick and Lanie Veenendall secured All-Tournament honors.

How it Happened
  • Augustana fired its second round of 309 to finish the tournament in second place. The Vikings shot a total stroke count of 932 by way of 314, 309 and 309.
  • AU averaged the best stroke count of par-4s with an average stroke of 4.34.
  • The Vikings also led the tournament in birdies with a total of 21.
  • McCormick finished in second place with a stroke count of 226 (73, 77 and 76). On the final round, she tallied one birdie on the back nine. She was the second-best on par-4s with an average stroke of 4.20.
  • Veenendall finished directly behind McCormick in a tie for third place with a stroke count of 228 (79, 74, 75). She topped the charts on par-3s with an average stroke of 3.00, and was tied first in total birdies with nine. Veenendall closed out the tournament with three birdies.
  • Anna Eckmann shot her third consecutive round of 80 to bring her stroke count to 240. She finished in 15th with a birdie on the final round.
  • Masy Mock jumped eight spots on the final day with a round of 78. Mock finished in a tie for 16th with a stroke count of 241.
  • Payton Drefke finished out the Vikings in 27th with a stroke count of 245 (82, 81 and 82). Drefke totaled two birdies on Sunday. 
Up Next
Augustana currently sits 10th in the region and will find out on Monday if it qualifies for the NCAA Regional Tournament. Regionals will be played on May 5-7 at Kickingbird Golf Course, Edmond, Oklahoma, hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma. Four 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the participants in the championship finals. Eighteen (18) teams in the east, central, south, and west regions, along with six individuals not on those teams, will compete at regionals.
