MINOT, N.D. - The Augustana baseball team wrapped up regular season action on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Minot State 7-4 at Corbett Field.
The Vikings close the schedule 36-14 overall and 30-10 in the NSIC to place second in the NSIC standings. They will take on Minnesota Crookston in the first round on Wednesday at 6 p.m., at the Birdcage. The Beavers conclude their season at 17-32, 11-29.
Jason Axelberg had two hits, including a double and a home run, two RBI and a run scored to power the offense.
Ryan Clementi joined him with a pair of hits and three RBI while freshmen
Bjorn Lind and
Kobe Eikmeier had two hits apiece.
Drew Ball allowed three runs and struck out four in 1 2/3 innings to start.
Harry Blum (5-2) earned the victory after striking out five and allowing a run in 4 1/3 innings.
Jadon Bast got a pair of outs without allowing a run and
Ethan Cole earned his first save of the season after facing the minimum in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Vikings found the scoreboard early to take the first lead.
Carter Heinsch earned a one-out walk and moved to second on an error. With two outs, Axelberg let one fly to left center to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
Brent Riddle of Minot State gave them the lead after a solo shot in the first and two-run blast in the second to make it 3-2.
In the third inning, AU evened the score on a
Joshua Koskie groundout before a wild pitch and Clementi groundout in the fourth put the Vikings in front 5-3.
Riddle drove in his fourth run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring the Beavers within 5-4. In the top of the ninth, Clementi capped the scoring with a two-run blast to bring the game to its final score.
