WAYNE, Neb. - The Augustana volleyball team dropped a road contest 25-15, 26-24, 25-22 to No. 14 Wayne State on Tuesday in Rice Auditorium.
Reagan Jansen and
Lucy Belisle had 11 kills apiece while Jansen tallied five digs.
Sydney Tims and
Kiylah Franke had three blocks each with Franke adding 32 assists and six digs.
Gabby Jones led the team with eight digs.
The Wildcats jumped to an 8-1 lead early, later inching ahead by 11 at 15-4. Kills from Belisle and Jansen sandwiched a WSC attack error to start a 5-1 run to get back within seven points but the Wildcats took care of business the rest of the set for an early lead.
A 5-1 Wildcat run opened the second set before a
Brooke Berens kill and two Jansen kills brought the Vikings within 5-4. Neither team could spark a run until a 5-0 Viking rally gave them their first lead of the night at 18-17. The Wildcats marched back to take a 24-21 lead but a
Maya Wente kill and two Jansen kills evened the scoring. WSC closed it out with the next two points to take a 2-0 lead.
With the Wildcats leading 6-3 in the third set, the Vikings scored eight straight points to take a commanding 11-6 lead. After the Wildcats had a kill to end the run, kills from Belisle and Franke made it 13-7 Vikings. 12 of the next 18 points went to the Wildcats to give them a 19-18 lead. A 21-19 AU lead fizzled with the Wildcats scoring the next four points and six of the final seven to close the match.
The Vikings now look ahead to Friday for their home opener, hosting Bemidji State at 6 p.m., inside the Elmen Center.
