Ferguson Named South Player of the Year; Hinker and Rensch Join Him On All-NSIC Teams

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Augustana men's basketball team saw a trio of players earn Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference awards, announced by the conference on Thursday. The group was led by guard Tameron Ferguson, who was named the NSIC South Division Player of the Year.
 
Along with the major awards, three Vikings were named to the All-Conference teams with Caden Hinker joining Ferguson as a First Team All-NSIC selection. Sam Rensch was named to the second team.
 
Ferguson, hailing from St. Cloud, Minnesota, averaged 20.0 points, 7.2 assists and 5.3 rebounds in 36.8 minutes per game in NSIC play this season, leading the NSIC in both assists and minutes. He also ranks top five in field goal percentage (51.7 percent), assist/turnover ratio (3.3) and steals per game (1.7).
 
He scored 20 or more points in 18 games this season and recorded five point-assist double doubles, tied for the most in program history. The four-time NSIC South Player of the Week is the only player in the country averaging at least 20.0 points and 6.0 assists per game.
 
Hinker, hailing from Mitchell, South Dakota, averaged 16.0 points and 5.6 rebounds over the NSIC season. He scored a career-high 26 points against Winona State on Nov. 18 and tallied three double doubles in conference action. Hinker has also knocked down 45 3-pointers while shooting 44.1 percent from beyond the arc, a percentage that ranks third in the NSIC.
 
Rensch, a native of Hutchinson, Minnesota, earned second-team honors after ranking third on the Vikings with a 15.2 point per game average in the NSIC. One of the top 3-point threats in the league, he led AU with 47 made long-range shots during the NSIC campaign while making them at a 45.6 percent clip, ranking third in the conference. He also averaged 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
 
Augustana, the NSIC's No. 2 seed, opens NSIC Tournament play on Saturday at 7 p.m. facing 10th-seeded MSU Moorhead inside the Sanford Pentagon.
