SHAWNEE, Kan. – Augustana dropped both of its games on Thursday at the Mid-America Sports Complex, falling 4-1 to Washburn before coming up short in a 4-3 decision against Upper Iowa.

Andrea Cain scored the lone run for the Vikings while
Claire Wynja,
Kierra Lubovich,
Ella Cooper and
Tierney Schramm each recorded a hit.
Teya Speltz (2-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in three innings with four strikeouts.
Jaelyn Garcia tossed four scoreless innings in relief, surrendering two hits and striking out two.
Augustana struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Cain drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Desi Cuevas. After Wynja worked a walk, Lubovich reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Cain to score for a 1-0 lead.
Washburn answered in the second inning, capitalizing on a hit batter and a wild pitch to even the game at 1-1. The turning point came in the third as a single and a walk set the table for Dalaney Anderson, who connected on a three-run home run to give Washburn a 4-1 advantage.
Garcia settled in over the final four innings, working around traffic in both the fourth and fifth to keep the deficit at three. The Vikings put two runners on in the seventh after singles from Cooper and Schramm, but a strikeout ended the threat as Washburn held on for the 4-1 win.

Cain went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored while
Sidney Smart added two hits, including a double, and
Briana Lee drove in two runs.
Helene Krage (1-2) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. Garcia again provided relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Augustana wasted no time taking the lead. Cain doubled to open the bottom of the first and advanced to third on a groundout before Wynja drove her home with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 edge.
Upper Iowa tied the game in the fourth on an RBI double, but the Vikings responded in the bottom half. Lubovich doubled to center and Smart followed with a single to put runners on the corners. After Smart stole second, Lee delivered a two-run single to right field, scoring both runners and giving AU a 3-1 lead.
The Peacocks swung the momentum in the sixth inning. A double and a walk set up Sara Reid, who launched a three-run home run to left field to push Upper Iowa in front 4-3.
Augustana was retired in order in the sixth and seventh innings, unable to mount a comeback as Upper Iowa secured the 4-3 victory.
