Ramberg Wins National Championship

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - In a career full of success, there was one thing missing from the trophy case of Max Ramberg… until now. On Saturday night, Ramberg earned the honor of National Champion.

Ramberg completes not only a season, but a career of dominance at 197 pounds. He is the 12th individual national champion in program history and the second in as many years.

"It's really cool," said Ramberg. "All my friends and family are what makes this so special. They would've been here no matter if we were wrestling in a barn in Upstate New York or anywhere, they would've been there."

The senior from Baldwin, Wisconsin, capped a 19-0 season with a 4-2 decision over No. 2 Nicholas Johnson of Glenville State. After a scoreless first period, Ramberg allowed an escape but got a takedown, eventually holding a 3-2 lead into the third. There, Ramberg got an early escape before holding off a flurry of attacks to hold onto the victory.

For Ramberg, he finishes his career 99-30 overall while holding the single-season and career record in tech falls. He is a three-time All-American, three-time NWCA Scholar All-American, two-time All-NSIC and, now, a National Champion.
