SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The No. 15 Augustana baseball team continued its hot streak on Tuesday, knocking off Sioux Falls 17-5 in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Ronken Field.
Ragan Pinnow had four hits and five RBI while finishing a triple short of the cycle, reaching five times and scoring three runs.
Bjorn Lind had four hits in the first four innings, finishing 4 for 5 with three RBI.
Carter Heinsch had three hits and scored three runs to round out the multi-hit Vikings.
After tearing up St. Cloud State over the weekend, Heinsch kept it rolling in his first at bat when he sent a 3-0 pitch over the center field fence. Berg followed with a walk, stole second and reached third before scoring on a Pinnow double to make it 2-0.
Soelter opened the second inning with a single and stolen base before reaching third on an error. Heinsch drew a walk to load the bases. Berg hit a sac fly to start the scoring for the inning and a failed pickoff allowed Eikmeier to score to make it 4-0.
Later in the inning, Lind picked up an RBI bunt single and
Cole Goeser delivered an RBI single to make the lead 6-0. The Cougars countered with five runs on four hits in the top of the third to get within 6-5.
The bats continued to apply pressure in the third, getting six runs back to balloon the lead to seven. Eikmeier was hit by a pitch and Heinsch reached on a bunt single to lead off the inning. Berg walked to load the bases, Pinnow drew a bases-loaded walk and McPeak and Lind hit back to back two-run doubles to make it 12-5.
In the fourth, Pinnow sent a blast to left center with one out to add another run. With one out and the bases loaded later in the inning,
Jake Lundquist lifted a sac fly to grow the lead to 14-5.
Eikmeier hit a leadoff blast in the fifth to keep the bats going. Heinsch hit another single following the home run and then Berg put two in scoring position with a double. Pinnow scored both with a single to bring the game to its final score.
The Vikings continue their road stretch on Saturday, hosting Minot State for a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
