Vikings Split Doubleheader, Explode for 10-0 Run-Rule Win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana split its conference doubleheader against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at Bowden Field, falling 2-1 in game one before bouncing back with a 10-0 five-inning victory in game two.

The Vikings were held in check offensively in the opener despite a strong performance in the circle from Jaelyn Garcia.

Minnesota Crookston struck in the first inning, using an RBI double to take an early 1-0 lead. Augustana threatened throughout the early innings but could not capitalize.

The Vikings evened the score in the fourth inning. Kierra Lubovich singled to lead off the frame and moved into scoring position before Stella Harber delivered a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

Crookston answered in the fifth inning with a go-ahead RBI double to reclaim a 2-1 lead.

Augustana had one final opportunity in the seventh as Harber led off with a double, but the Vikings were unable to bring her home.

Garcia went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five. Harber led Augustana with two hits and an RBI.

The Vikings responded in a big way in game two, using a nine-run third inning to secure a run-rule victory. Helene Krage and Teya Spletz also combined for a no-hitter in the circle.

After a scoreless first inning, Augustana broke through in the second as Kierra Lubovich launched a solo home run to right center for a 1-0 lead.

The offense erupted in the third inning. Tierney Schramm opened the frame with a walk before Andrea Cain blasted a two-run home run to extend the lead. The Vikings continued to apply pressure with patient at-bats and timely hitting.

Norah Christiansen delivered a two-run double, and Schramm capped the inning with a three-run double as Augustana plated nine runs in the frame to take a commanding 10-0 advantage.
