SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 17/22-ranked Augustana football team (1-1) opens home-field action Saturday afternoon, taking on Minot State (0-2). Kickoff from Kirkeby-Over Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.

Scouting the Enemy
The Beavers fell to Wayne State last week after a 21-point fourth quarter from the Wildcats, including a 14-yard rushing touchdown in the final minute to give Wayne State the win over Minot State. Head Coach Ian Shields heads into his fourth season at Minot State with a record of 9-24 with the Beavers and a 49-71 overall record. 

Placing 10th in the NSIC Preseason Rankings, the Beavers started their season with two losses after two high-scoring games against Emporia State and Wayne State. In their loss to Wayne State, the Beavers gathered 334 rushing yards along with 85 passing yards for a total of 419 offensive yards. Brandon Hines Jr. had 18 carries for 174 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Beavers, with his longest run being 62 yards. Jaden Fox added their third touchdown with nine attempts and 32 rushing yards. Jett Lundeen went 4-of-9 for 53 yards, drawing an interception and a sack from the Wildcats. 

Defensively for the Beavers, Austin Young led with nine total tackles, five being solo. Young added one quarterback hit and pass break-up for the Beavers. Kyler Smith forced a fumble while securing four tackles, including one tackle for loss. Calvin Moore and Jabez Tuaoa both added six tackles for the Beavers.

Weekend Rewind
Despite the strong showing, the 17/22-ranked Vikings fell to the Bulldogs 30-23 after an hour-long weather delay in Duluth, Minn. The teams combined for a total of 524 passing yards, with 319 of those belonging to Augustana. The Vikings added 81 rushing yards for a combined total offense of 400 yards. Breylon Blount led the helm of rushing yards with 15 attempts for 106 yards and one touchdown. Klayton Sattler led in receiving yards with 106 yards on six receptions for one touchdown. Cody Oswald found the ball five times for 78 yards, with his longest reception being 49 yards. Gunnar Hensley went 24-for-41, securing 319 yards and one touchdown, while taking four sacks and throwing one interception. 

Wyatt Hamersma led defensively for the Vikings with 10 total tackles, six being solo. Cameron Maciejewski was next with eight total tackles, a tackle for a loss of five yards, and a forced fumble that was recovered by Tyler Birn. Brody Koberoski also added eight total tackles with five solo. The defense tallied four sacks on the Bulldogs from Maciejewski, Joshua Lee-O'Bryant, Lathan Wilcox, Birn, and Christian Connelly. 

Pecina's Week
Forney, Texas native Jake Pecina was named the NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against Minnesota Duluth. Pecina connected on all three field-goal attempts from 43, 24, and 40 yards. He punted three times for a total of 119 yards that averaged out to be 39.7 yards per punt.
