Larry Borgum Spirit of Sam Award Recipient
For the past 20 years the Augustana/Sam Milanovich Golf Committee has selected individuals to be honored at The Sammy. The individuals are selected based on their significant impact at Augustana and/or their great support of the event. In 2012, the committee unanimously decided to name the award in honor of longtime Augustana employee and supporter Larry Borgum
Borgie’s career at Augustana spanned over 40 years. During his tenure he held many jobs: Sports Statistics Manager, Business Manager of the Athletic Department, Assistant Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, and Assistant baseball Coach to name a few. The job titles only offer a small glimpse of the many tasks Borgie performed. In addition to attending practically every home athletic contest, it was not uncommon for Borgie to be seen lining the football field, sweeping the basketball floor, taping ankles of athletes, and offering valuable advice to any coach who would listen. For two generations of Augustana student-athletes, Larry was known as the person who prepared the financial aid and athletic scholarship packages.
The Augustana/Sam Milanovich golf Committee is proud to name the Spirit of Sam Award in honor of Larry Borgum. A list of honorees is below:
