Sports Medicine Services / Insurance Information
Sports Medicine Staff: Augustana University athletic department takes great pride in the health and
well-being of its student athletes. Our sports medicine medical team is comprised of our medical
director (Dr. Scott Boyens), team orthopedic surgeon (Dr. Kristofer Kimber) and five certified athletic
trainers. Both of our team physicians host a sports medicine clinic on Monday afternoons (3:30-5:00 pm)
throughout the academic year in the main Athletic Training room. Any student athlete requesting to see
one of the physicians must be referred by one of the certified athletic trainers. All student athletes are
REQUIRED to report to a member of the certified athletic training staff any injury / illness which requires
medical attention.
On-Campus Health Services: Student athletes with general health concerns should report to the
Campus Health Clinic in Solberg Hall (lower level). Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 am – 3:30
pm. A Certified Nurse Practitioner is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10:00 am –
12:00 pm. Students will be expected to pay for services provided by the nurse practitioner (CNP).
Students who may require further medical care can be referred to the Sanford Clinic-Family Medicine.
Health Insurance: All student athletes are required to have primary health insurance which specifically
covers athletic injuries. Student athletes are not eligible to participate in any supervised athletic team
activity without verification of this insurance. Please note that the University DOES NOT pay for medical
expenses associated with athletic activities. Medical bills are the responsibility of the student athlete.
International Student Athletes: These student athletes whose primary health insurance policy does not
provide coverage in the United States are required to purchase health insurance through the
International Program department. This policy does carry a small deductible and has a maximum
term coverage limits. Contact the International Programs department at 605-274-5050 for more specific
information.
