Biography

2020 (Junior): Started all 13 games for the Vikings… Had a .383 batting average with three doubles, seven RBIs, 18 hits and 12 runs scored… Had an on base percentage of .442 and went seven-for-nine in stolen base attempts… Season cut short due to COVID-19.

2019 (Sophomore): Named DII ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award winner… Second Team All-NSIC… NSIC Gold Glove award winner… Appeared in all 59 games and started 57 of them… Had a .341 batting average with 56 runs scored, 75 hits, 21 doubles, two triples, three homers, 54 RBI’s, 22 walks and three hit by pitches… Slugged .495 with an OBP of .398… Went 13-15 in stolen base attempts and had a .992 fielding percentage with 125 chances.

2018 (Freshman): Played in 61 games and started in 58 of those games … The 61 games played is tied for the most in a single season in program history … The 58 starts are tied for the fifth most in program history … Batted .330 on the year … Drove in 29 RBI … 11 doubles, two home runs, one triple … .425 slugging percentage … .425 on-base percentage … 17 stolen bases on 19 attempts … Had three-hit games four different times … Blasted two doubles at Bemidji State on March 29 … scored three runs vs Upper Iowa on March 28 … Was was a member of a team that won a program-best 52 games, an NSIC Conference Tournament championship, a Central Region Tournament Championship and the school’s first ever National Championship

High School Notes: Ryan enters his senior year as a two year starter and letter winner … as a junior he batted .433 with 29 hit including seven doubles, two triples and a home run … he scored 18 runs and drove in 15 RBIs … had a .642 slugging percentage  and stole 23 bases … earned all-conference honors, American Legion MVP of Minnesota's 4th District, American Legion team MVP for the Tri-City Red, American Legion 4th District All-District Team … as a sophomore helped his team earn an SEC Conference title, a Section 5 AAA title and a State Consolation championship
 
Personal: Born on May 14, 1999 in Edina, Minn. to Troy and Cindi Nickel; While at Augustana he plans on majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Fitness Management
