Chase King joined the Augustana coaching staff in 2013 after spending time on Jerry Olszewski's staff at St. Olaf. King is the linebackers coach and camp coordinator for the Viking football program. Prior to the 2022 season, King was named the Special Teams Coordinator.

In 2024, King helped lead the Vikings to another NSIC Championship. Haden Wallace was named to the All-NSIC First Team and CCA Super Region Four Second Team while Kade Lynott joined him on the All-NSIC First Team. On special teams, Isaiah Huber was an All-NSIC First Team return specialist and named to the CCA Super Region Four Second Team. 

King helped coach the Vikings to an NSIC Championship in 2023. He was in charge of a special teams unit that touted the Don Hansen Specialist of the Year in Devon Jones and a linebacking corp that had an All-NSIC First Teamer in Haden Wallace and All-NSIC Second Teamer Kade Lynott.
 
For the third-straight season, T.J. Liggett earned All-NSIC honors, this time after compiling 81 tackles, 50 of which were solo.

After the canceled 2020 season, King coach T.J. Liggett to First Team All-NSIC South Division honors in 2021. In addition, he coached a defensive group that led the nation in rushing defense at just 41.8 yards per game. 
 
King coached part of a defensive unit that led the NSIC in four categories in 2019 including fewest touchdowns allowed. T.J. Liggett earned second-team all-NSIC honors after proving to be a turnover machine, forcing three fumbles and recovering two. The Vikings ranked eighth in the nation in turnovers gained.
 
Augustana tallied a 9-3 record, the second-most wins in a season in program history in the 2019 season. Head coach Jerry Olszewski was named the NSIC Coach of the Year as the Vikings finished the year with a 6-0 mark inside Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
 
Kirby Hora concluded his outstanding career in 2018 earning first-team all-NSIC South Division honors and third-team defense on the Don Hansen Super Region Four team. Hora ranked fifth in the league with 97 tackles and added 11 tackles for a loss.
 
In 2017, Hora concluded the season as the NSIC tackles leader, earning first-team all-league honors and a pair of All-America accolades. Hora totaled 129 tackles, an average of 11.7 per game. He posted double-digit tackles in seven of the Vikings’ 11 games including a 21-tackle effort against MSU Moorhead in the season opener. That mark tied the school’s single-game record.
 
Augustana’s defense ranked fifth in the high-scoring NSIC in 2016, holding opponents to 26.5 points per game. Augustana finished the year forcing 14 turnovers and recording 26 sacks, marking the second-straight season with 20-plus sacks.
 
Four defensive players earned All-NSIC honors in 2016, including first-team selections Bryson Hamilton and Hora.
 
King helped coach an Augustana defense that forced 23 turnovers in 2015. Senior safety Chad Curry earned All-NSIC South Division First Team honors under King’s watch. Curry ranked fourth on the team with 72 tackles (36 solo) and finished tied for second on the team with two interceptions. Following the season, Curry was named to the Don Hansen All-Central Region Third Team.
 
Justin Brown, who played in 10 of 12 games, led the team with three interceptions to go along with 16 tackles. Garrett Earl played in just six games after suffering a broken foot. Earl finished the year with 17 tackles. Sophomore Trevor Naasz had another strong season for the Vikings at free safety. Naasz finished fifth on the team with 68 tackles (38 solo) and recorded one interception.
 
King rotated in a large number of players in 2015 with six underclassmen all seeing significant field time in 2015. Cornerback Jordan Johnson recorded 39 tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss, to go along with one interception and eight pass breakups. Anthony Tatum played in 11 of 12 games in 2015 and recorded 26 tackles and two interceptions. Keyvion Mayhan played in all 12 games making 30 tackles (4.0 tackles for loss) and Jordan Determan appeared in 11 games making 19 tackles.   
 
King coached a young group of tight ends in 2014 that included just one senior. Nick Lee hauled in 16 passes for 231 yards and paved the way for junior Jake Bartscher and sophomores Jordan Meyer and Nate Winter in 2015.   
 
A native of Gridley, Calif., King earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing communications from California Lutheran University in 2008. He completed work on a master’s degree in business administration (marketing) from CLU in 2011.
 
King was a three-year starter at linebacker for CLU and helped the Kingsmen to the 2007 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. He was a three-time Academic All-SCIAC selection.
 
At St. Olaf, he coached one All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference second-team performer and three honorable mention choices. In 2012, the Oles’ pass defense ranked 15th nationally in NCAA Division III.
 
King and his wife, Jill, reside in Sioux Falls and have a daughter, Lily.Â
