Colton Brewer is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach with Augustana football in 2017. Brewer works with the wide receivers for the Vikings.
Brewer worked with two All-NSIC performers at wide receiver in his first season in 2016. Matt Heller and Charlie Hayes earned All-NSIC First Team honors last season after helping the offensive put up record-setting numbers.
Heller was named to three All-America teams, including the Associated Press Little All-America First Team after ranking second in the country with Augustana single season records in receiving yards (1,490) and receiving touchdowns (21). Hayes, who missed two games due to injury, finished the year with 787 receiving yards and six touchdown catches.
Nathan Merriman, playing his first full season at wide receiver in 2016, hauled in 23 passes for 23 yards and four scores. Trevor DeSchepper caught 20 passes for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns while true freshman Jake Welsheimer hauled in 17 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns.
Brewer comes to Augustana after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Abernathy High School in Texas. Brewer was also an assistant coach for basketball, track and field and baseball at Abernathy. He is a 2014 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas where he was a three-year starter at wide receiver.
He was a two-time All-Conference honorable mention honoree at Hardin-Simmons and was a team captain his senior season. Following his playing career, Brewer spent the spring season as a graduate assistant coach for wide receivers and tight ends at Hardin-Simmons before being named the offensive coordinator at Abernathy High School.
