Dante Warren begins his second season as a graduate assistant coach with Augustana football in 2017. Warren coaches the running backs for the Vikings.
Warren led a committee of running backs that combined for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. Jackie Davis rushed for 499 yards and six scores while Caden Quintanilla added 341 yards and two scores. DJ Luke made his debut for the Vikings in 2016 and rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns in six games.
Warren is no stranger to the area after graduating from the University of South Dakota in 2012. Warren was a Second Team All-Great West Conference selection at quarterback for the Coyotes in 2010.
He played in 38 career games at USD and still ranks fifth all-time with 4,361 career passing yards as a Coyote. Warren also ranks fourth all-time at USD having thrown 35 touchdown passes in four seasons. He finished his career with 5,362 yards of total offense which still ranks sixth all-time at USD.
As a senior in 2011, Warren threw for 1,729 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 415 yards and nine scores. Warren’s junior season at USD still stands in the record book. He threw for 2,137 yards (fourth all-time) and 18 touchdowns to go along with 393 rushing yards and six scores.
Following his collegiate career, Warren played one season in the Indoor Football League for the Tri-Cities Fever. Warren threw for 1,472 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 654 yards and 25 scores in his only season with Tri-Cities.
Warren started his coaching career as the offensive coordinator at Zion Benton Township High School in Zion, Illinois in 2014. Warren was also responsible for the strength and conditioning duties with the football program at Zion Benton and 11 of 31 of the team’s seniors received football scholarships last season. He also was a teacher’s aide at Zion Benton Alternative Program teaching history and English.
Warren is pursuing his Master’s Degree in sports administration and management at Augustana.
