Jake Dickert enters his second season as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Augustana in 2014.
Dickert led the Augustana defense to an impressive year during his first season as the coordinator. The Vikings finished the season ranking 20th in the country and third in the NSIC allowing just 19.5 points per game. Augustana finished third in the conference and 27th in the nation allowing 329.3 yards per game, third in the NSIC and 44th in the nation giving up just 135.5 rushing yards per game and fourth in the conference and 47th in the country in red zone defense (72.7 percent).
Augustana’s defense recorded 27 sacks in 2013, ranking sixth in the NSIC and 48th in all of NCAA Division II while recording the most sacks as a team since 2010.
Five of Augustana’s six All-NSIC performers in 2013 played on the defensive side of the ball, including first team selections Jake Lee (Defensive Line) and Ben Skelly (Linebacker). Brandon Mohr (Linebacker) and Thomas Vanasek (Defensive Back) earned second team all-conference honors while sophomore Justin Brown (Defensive Back) was named honorable mention.
Prior to Augustana, Dickert spent the 2012 season at Southeast Missouri State University after coaching stints at the University of South Dakota and North Dakota State University.
The Redhawks finished in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) top 20 in turnovers gained and interceptions and were second in the Ohio Valley Conference in pass defense. The Redhawks’ strong safety was named first team all-conference.
Dickert served as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at USD in 2011. The Coyotes were second in the Great West Conference in pass defense, pass defense efficiency, and interceptions. Three USD players were named All-Conference, including first team choices at punter and kicker.
As a graduate assistant at NDSU he worked with defensive backs and special teams. His graduate assistant experience included a stint (2007-08) at UW-Stevens Point.
Dickert played four seasons at Stevens Point, the first two at quarterback before switching to wide receiver. As a junior he caught 47 passes for 785 yards and four touchdowns and was named the Pointers’ wide receiver of the year. He had 56 receptions for 592 yards and five touchdowns his senior season and was named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team.
Dickert and his wife, Candice, are the parents of one daughter, Rylee, 1.
