Lucas Kleinschrodt is in his second season as a graduate assistant with the Augustana football program in 2015. Kleinschrodt will coach the defensive backs for the Vikings for the second straight season.
Kleinschrodt helped coach the Augustana defense that allowed the third fewest points per game in the NSIC in 2014. The Vikings also allowed the third fewest first downs (217) and ranked sixth in the league in red zone defense at 77.8 percent.
Defensive backs Jordan Johnson and Chad Curry ranked fourth and fifth on the team in total tackles. Johnson finished with 55 and Curry added 54. The duo combined for five interceptions, including Curry’s team-high three picks.
A native of Alden, Minn., Kleinschrodt played collegiately at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in health and fitness. Kleinschrodt was a four-year letterwinner for the Gusties as a linebacker.
Kleinschrodt recorded 146 tackles in 38 career games at Gustavus, ranking fifth on his team with a career-high 42 tackles his senior season in 2013. He finished his career with three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, four pass break-ups and four tackles for loss.
Kleinschrodt was an intern with the Gustavus football team after his playing career and assisted with recruiting, strength and conditioning and film breakdown. He spent the summer of 2013 as an intern with the strength and conditioning staff at the University of Minnesota where he was involved in daily strength and conditioning operations, including leading offseason workouts.
Kleinschrodt was a volunteer coach for St. Peter Youth football for three seasons coaching second and fourth graders the fundamentals of football. He was also involved with the Tau Psi Omega Fraternity from 2011 to 2013 where he planned, coordinated and implemented numerous community service projects.
Kleinschrodt resides in Sioux Falls and is pursuing his Master’s Degree in sports management and leadership at Augustana.
