Tevin Lakes

Tevin L. Lakes, Sr. is a native of Drew, Mississippi. He was raised by his mother Mamie Washington (Drew, MS) and his father, the late Bruce E. Lakes, Sr. (Drew/Ruleville, MS)

In 2019, Lakes was on a staff that saw head coach Jerry Olszewski named the NSIC Coach of the Year after the Vikings tallied a 9-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
 
While coaching the defensive backs, Lakes tutored first-team all-NSIC selection Eli Weber and second-team honoree Michael Kloza. The Vikings intercepted 19 passes and ranked eighth in the nation in turnovers gained.

Lakes started his college football career at Mississippi Delta Community College, where he played all positions in the secondary, but mainly cornerback and also had some return duties. He was NCJAA 2nd team All-American at cornerback finishing his career with nine interceptions and 29 pass breakups.

Coach Lakes graduated from Mississippi Valley State University with his bachelor’s degree in (HPER) health, physical education & recreation. Coach Lakes decided to start his football coaching career at West Bolivar High School (2A) as a defensive back coach and DC at West Bolivar Junior High School in 2016. 

He's a 2010 honors graduate of Ruleville Central High School. During high school, he was a three-star athlete--football, basketball, and a 3A state champion in 300-meter hurdles in track. During his senior season, he was voted best wide receiver in North Mississippi with 58 catches, 1,085 yards, 8 touchdowns and many more awards and accolades, finishing his senior year with a winning record. 

Coach Lakes is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He has one child, Tevin L. Lakes, Jr. (Darling, Mississippi). Tevin lives in Sioux Falls.Â
