High School: DeGroot is a three-year letterwinner and two-year team captain for the Patriots. He averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 55.5 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from deep on his way to All-State First Team honors. He was named team MVP while helping Sioux Falls Lincoln to a third-place finish at the state tournament.

Personal: Sam is the son of Phil and Jen DeGroot. He plans to major in business and earn a minor in Spanish.
