Caitlin Wnek enters her second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Augustana softball program in 2016-17.
Wnek helped the Vikings to a 40-16 record in 2017, including 21-5 in NSIC play, which was good for a third place finish in the final league standings. Augustana made its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in the last eight seasons in 2017, advancing to the Central Region 2 Tournament title game.
Augustana batted .337 as a team in 2017, the fifth highest mark in a single season and stole 83 bases, the second most in a single season.
Wnek joins Augustana after a stellar playing career at the University of Northern Iowa where she was a four-year lettterwinner and All-Scholar athlete. She graduated as Northern Iowa’s all-time leader in career doubles with 56 and earned All-MVC First Team honors her senior season.
She batted .323 with a team-leading 18 doubles in 2016 while batting .388 with 19 RBI in conference play her senior campaign. She struck out just two times in 161 at-bats her senior year. Wnek was named the Newcomer of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference her freshman season in 2013 after batting .290 with 14 doubles and 17 RBI. She started four straight seasons for UNI at shortstop.
Wnek was named All-MVC Second Team as a sophomore and junior before earning first team honors her senior year.
A native of Amana, Iowa, Wnek is pursuing her master’s degree in sports administration and leadership at Augustana.
