Amber Peterson

Augustana women’s basketball head coach Jillian Flores Bennett has announced the addition of Amber Peterson as her top assistant. Peterson joins the Vikings after serving the past three seasons as the head coach at Lakeland University.
 
Peterson spent the past 10 years at Lakeland, serving in a multitude of capacities with her final three as the head coach of the Muskies women’s basketball program. The previous seven seasons, she was the assistant coach for the Muskies program. In addition, she was the Senior Woman Administrator for Lakeland.
 
While serving as the Muskies’ head coach, Peterson coached four 1,000-point scorers and the D3hoops.com Region 8 Rookie of the Year. As an assistant, Lakeland twice placed runner-up in the NACC and won the NACC Tournament in 2017 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
 
As the primary coach for the guards, the 2018-19 season saw the Muskies rank 26th nationally in assist/turnover ratio. In addition, the 2015-16 team ranked ninth in NCAA Division III with a 3.57 GPA.
 
Along with her roles with the basketball team, Peterson served as the women’s golf head coach where she was named the NACC Coach of the Year and claimed the team championships in 2021.
 
Peterson garnered her Associate of Arts degree from Iowa Western in 2010 and followed with her Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Augusta State in 2013. While at Augusta, she began her coaching career, serving as a student assistant while helping the Jaguars to their best season in 13 years. Prior to her time at Augusta, she played her junior season at Southwest Minnesota State, starting 25 games while dishing 4.0 assists in a team-best 32.4 minutes per game.
