Emma Nelson was hired in May of 2023 as the program's fulltime assistant coach. Nelson is a former graduate assistant within the Viking program, having served in the role from 2020-22.
Nelson comes back to Augustana after serving for a year as the assistant director at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). She assisted in strategic planning, the conference's diversity, equity and inclusion initiative, membership education services, event planning and management, SAAC and sport information.
Nelson joined the Augustana volleyball staff in the summer of 2020 after graduating from St. Catherine University where she received her bachelor's degree in psychology. A two-sport athlete at St. Catherine's, Nelson competed in volleyball and basketball and earn spots on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Teams in 2018-19 and 2019-20 in basketball and in 2019 for volleyball.
The native of Byron, Minnesota, began her coaching career as an assistant coach for Vital Volleyball Club as well as volunteering with Club 43, a developmental league for grades 3rd-6th.
