Augustana named Cody Schilling the Vikings 16th head coach on March 28, 2024. Previous to the announcement, he spent three seasons as an assistant coach at AU.
In his three years as an assistant coach, the Vikings won an NSIC Championship, hosted the 2022 NCAA Division II Regional and had six all-conference honorees including three first-team selections.
In his first year back with the program, Schilling was a key member of the coaching staff that saw head coach Tom Billeter named the NSIC Coach of the Year after winning the 2022 NSIC Championship. He helped tutor Tyler Riemersma to All-America honors.
Within the NSIC, Riemersma was the South Division's Player of the Year while Dylan LeBrun was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, Adam Dykman earned First Team All-NSIC honors with Isaac Fink earning a spot on the second team.
In 2022-23, Fink earned the first of two First Team All-NSIC honors. Fink repeated on the first team in 2023-24 while Jadan Graves earned second team accolades.
Schilling, the 2009 NSIC Freshman of the Year, was a three-time First Team All-NSIC honor over his playing days. He also holds a pair of All-Ameica accolades from D2 Bulletin as a student-athlete while earning his degree in elementary education. He left Augustana as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,868 points and still holds the record with the highest free-throw percentage in program history at 86.5 percent.
Schilling comes back to Augustana after serving as a head coach at both the collegiate and high school levels. Most recently, he was named the head boys basketball coach at Royse City High School in Royse City, Texas, a position he was named to in April. He spent the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons as the head coach at Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic High School where he led the Cougars to the Texas High School Final Four with a record of 20-4 in 2020-21. Seven of the team's players were named first or second team all-district.
The Ellsworth, Minnesota, native served as the head coach of Mount Marty for two seasons where he orchestrated an impressive turnaround where a team he recruited won 20 games in 2019-20. In his first year with MMU, the Lancers won more games than the previous three seasons combined.
Following graduation from Augustana, he taught and coached at Dell Rapids St. Mary's before moving to the Director of Avera Select Basketball and lead trainer for Warwick Workouts in Sioux Falls.
Schilling and his wife, Erica, reside in Sioux Falls.
