#20 Dajon Newell (RB, So., 5-10, 185, Lakeville, Minn./North) became the fourth 1,000-yard rusher in Augustana history after a 165-yard three touchdown performance against Southwest Minnesota State in the season finale on Saturday. Newell ran the ball 21 times and matched his career-high with three rushing touchdowns in the game. Newell finishes the season with 1,090 total rushing yards and is the first to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark since Joe Clark in 2010. The sophomore running back, who was making his 19th consecutive start on Saturday, finished the season with a career-high 11 touchdowns. Newell scored early in the first quarter on a six-yard run and late in the second quarter popping off a 47-yard scoring scamper to give Augustana a 28-21 lead just before the end of the half. He then scored on an 11-yard rush with 3:12 remaining in the game that would stand as the game-winning score.
