Laquone Robinson's second year as a graduate assistant for Augustana’s men’s and women’s track and field team in the 2015-16 was a success. Robinson coached hurdles, sprints, multi's and pole vault.
In his second season as the track and field graduate assistant, Robinson helped lead both indoor track and field teams to second place finishes at the NSIC Indoor Championships and 12 earn All-NSIC honors.
At the Indoor National Championships Robinson helped lead Ryan Heuer to All-American honors in the 60-meter hurdles after coming in seventh. Freshman Olivia Montez Brown earned All-America honors in the Pentathlon after finishing ninth with 3773 points.
At the NSIC Outdoor championships Robinson helped guide the men’s program to a second place finish and the women to a third place finish. Helped lead 11 individuals and two relay teams to All-NSIC honors on the men’s side and seven individual and two relay teams earn All-NSIC honors on the women’s side. At the NSIC Outdoor Championships Bree Woelber won the High Point championship which is the award given to the athlete that earns the most points at the championships. Kayla Mescher earned her fourth consecutive conference championship in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.73.
Robinson helped four student-athletes make it to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Florida. Kayla Mescher earned All-America honors in the 400-meter hurdles while also breaking her own school record. Bree Woelber earned All-America honors in the high jump after jumping five-feet, eight inches. Olivia Montez Brown earned All-America honors in the heptathlon after a sixth place finish. Montez Brown scored 5,254 points, a school record.
A 2013 graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, Robinson spent the past year coaching for his alma mater, MSUM. Robinson coached an athlete to the NCAA DII National Championships in both the 60 meter hurdles and the 60 meter dash, and earned the title All-American during the outdoor season. He also coached hurdles and assisted with sprints while coaching for Moorhead High School in the spring of 2014. During his time at Moorhead High, an athlete who specializes in hurdles achieved the status of All-State Hurdler under Robinson's coaching instruction. That season, Moorhead High also won sections.
The former Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference athlete competed for the Dragon’s track and field team. Robinson collected 2011 Indoor Regional Field Athlete of the Year, 2011 NSIC Field Athlete of the Year- Indoor, and 2011 NSIC Field Athlete of the Year- Outdoor, 2012 NSIC High Point Scorer, and 2012 Mount Sac Champion. Robinson currently holds two NSIC Conference records, was a recipient of the Ron Masanz Award, holds six MSUM records, NSIC New Comer of the Year, MSUM New Comer of the Year, 17 time All Regional Athlete, nine time 2nd Team All NSIC, 13 time NSIC Champion, three time NCAA DII All-American (Indoor Heptathlon 2x, Outdoor 4x1), and finished the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.04.
Many of these accomplishments came while Robinson was training under Rahn Sheffield, former head coach of team USA.
A native of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Robinson earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from MSUM in 2013. Currently residing in Sioux Falls with his wife, Robinson is pursuing his master’s degree in sports administration and leadership.
