Rachel Stangler was named the North Central Conference Women's Cross Country Outstanding Athle for her efforts at the 2004 NCC Championships, held October 16 in Mankato, Minn. Meanwhile, Nick Hirsch of St. Cloud State was named the Men's Outstanding Athlete.
In addition, Rob Kinnunen of South Dakota and Mark Schuck of Minnesota State have been
named the North Central Conference Cross Country Coaches of the Year announced today by the conference office. The awards are voted on by the
conference's cross country coaches.
Both Stangler and Hirsch won the NCC Championship. Stangler, a sophomore from Albany,
Minn., covered the 6K course in 22:24.26 and helped lead the Vikings to a
second-place team finish. Hirsch, a senior from Waucoma, Iowa, toured the
men's 8K course in 25:22.88 and led St. Cloud State to a sixth-place team
finish.
Kinnunen led the South Dakota women's cross country team to its third
consecutive North Central Conference title, while Schuck guided the Mavericks to their first NCC title since 1999.
