Katie Krauth tossed a two-hitter and
Kristin Nagle hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Augustana College to a 1-0 win over St. Cloud State and help the Vikings gain a doubleheader split with the Huskies Saturday afternoon at Bowden Field. St. Cloud State won the second game 5-1.
Krauth (5-2) was dominant on the mound for the Vikings (14-11, 3-1 NCC). She struck out 10 batters and allowed only two SCSU runners to reach second base. She finished the game strong, retiring the final 10 batters she faced, including four by strikeout.
While Krauth silenced the Husky bats, Nagle provided the key hit. With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Nagle connected for her fifth home run of the season, a shot over the left center fence.
Nagle's blast tagged SCSU pitcher Nicole Webb (7-1) with the loss. Webb matched Krauth for most of the game. She allowed seven hits and struck out eight Vikings.
In Game 2, Lacey Trossbach tossed a four-hitter and also hit a home run to lift the Huskies (16-5, 1-1 NCC) to the win. Angie Berg went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. She got SCSU on the board first with a home run in the top of the second inning off Augie starter
Afton Murray (4-3). The Huskies added another run in the second to take a 2-0 lead.
The Vikings answered in the bottom of the second with an RBI double by
Kelsey Rossow that scored
Gian Hill. But Trossbach slammed the door after that, retiring the next 10 batters before allowing an infield single to
Ashley Minish to start the sixth inning.
Augustana concludes its weekend homestand on Sunday with a doubleheader against Minnesota State University, Mankato. First pitch is at noon.
