Augustana's
Alison Adamson has been named the North Central Confernce Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 15, the league office announced Monday.
Adamson, a 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Willmar, Minn., sparked No. 22 Augustana to a pair of home wins over No. 25 Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State. With the wins, Augustana improved to 17-4 overall and 2-2 in the NCC. The Vikings are now 14-0 at home this season.
After scoring 5 points and dishing out 5 assists in the Vikings' 64-57 win over Minnesota-Duluth, Adamson exploded for a career-high 27 points against St. Cloud State, helping the Vikings rally from a 15-point second-half deficit.
Adamson had the hot hand from the 3-point line. She made her first 8 shots behind the arc and finished 8-for-9 overall from long distance. Her 8 treys tied a school record, while her 8 consecutive 3-pointers set a single-game mark.
However, it was Adamson's free throw with 10 seconds left that proved to be the winning point as Augustana hung on for a 90-89 victory.
For the week, Adamson averaged 16 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. She shot 55.6 percent (10-for-18) overall from the field, including 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from 3-point range. She was also 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
Adamson is the first Augie women's player to win the award since
Laura Hensley earned the honor on January 19, 2004.
