Augie Men Fall to Hot-Shooting Nebraska-Omaha

The Augustana College men's basketball team couldn't find an answer for a hot-shooting Nebraska-Omaha squad as the No. 18 Mavericks defeated the Vikings 78-61 Saturday night at the Elmen Center.

Nebraska-Omaha (19-3, 5-2 North Central Conference) shot 57.4 percent (24-for-47) for the game, including a blistering 61.5 percent (16-for-26) in the first half. Augustana, meanwhile, connected on 43 percent (23 of 53) of its field goal attempts.

The game was tied 11-11 with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half when the visiting Mavericks went on a 13-2 run to take a 24-13 lead with 7:48 to play. UNO eventually stretched the lead to 14 and took a 41-27 lead at halftime.

The Vikings (8-15, 1-7 NCC) were still within 14 with 10:30 left in the game, but the Mavericks put the game away with a 14-3 run to open their largest lead of the game at 67-42 with 7:16 remaining.

Jerald Richardson led Augustana with 12 points off the bench. Joey Ryan added 11 points.

Ryan Curtis scored a game-high 15 points to lead UNO. Abdul Mills and Calvin Kapels joined him in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Augustana will go back on the road for the first of three straight road games. The Vikings will be at North Dakota next Saturday, February 12.
