Session 1 Report
Augustana advanced eight of 10 wrestlers to the second round of the 2005 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships.

In the team standings, Augustana is in second place with 12 points. Defending national champion Nebraska-Omaha is in the lead with 16 points. The host Mavs also won eight first-round matches, four by pins, for their 16 points.

The Vikings received major decisions from No. 1 Aaron Graumann (125 pounds), Andre VanderVelde (141 pounds), No. 1 Ryan King (149 pounds) and No. 1 Tom Meester (184 pounds). Graumann scored a 13-5 win over Kory Lira of Ft. Hays State, while VanderVelde won 12-4 over Kyle Evans of Central Oklahoma. King tallied a 13-5 triumph over Nebraska-Kearney's Pat True, and Meester, the defending 184-pound national champion, earned a 12-3 victory over Mark Murphy of Shippensburg.

Two Vikings picked up wins over nationally-ranked opponents. No. 7 Austin Scarset (157 pounds) scored a 6-4 decision over No. 6 Luke Main of West Liberty State. At 165 pounds, No. 4 Cody Henriksen got a takedown with 8 seconds left in overtime to claim a 3-1 decision over No. 8 A.J. Morgan of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Also victorious for Augustana in the first round were No. 4 Dusty Wilking (174 pounds), who decisioned Jake Schluckebier of Chadron State 8-5, and No. 2 Tim Boldt (197 pounds), who defeated Ashland's Ryan Kirst 10-5.

The only two Vikings who lost first-round matches were Justin Bohlke (133 pounds) and Cris Bietz (285 pounds). Bohlke lost by major decision to No. 1 Curry Pickard of North Carolina-Pembroke 19-6, while Cris Bietz dropped a 7-5 decision to No. 2 Tervel Dlagnev of Nebraska-Kearney.
