Joey Ryan and
Nick Olson as the Vikings defeated Minnesota-Crookston 73-70 Saturday night in Crookston, Minn.
Ryan scored 23 points, all in the first half, and Olson poured in 16 points, including 9 in the second half as the Vikings (4-1) won their third-straight game, all on the road.
While Olson and Ryan made big plays throughout the game, it was
Tom Ver Douw and
Marques Blank made some big plays of their own down the stretch.
With Augustana trailing 70-69, Ver Douw sank a jumper with 1:52 left in the game to give the Vikings a 71-70 lead.
Then, after UMC's Bryce Cummings missed a 3-pointer with 11 seconds on the clock, Blank sank two free throws to give the Vikings a 3-point cushion at 73-70. Joey Kollar's last-second 3-pointer was off the mark, giving the Vikings the win.
Ryan and Olson were the only Vikings to score in double figures as Augustana shot 50 percent (24 of 54) from the field. Ryan finished the night 9-for-13, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range.
The Vikings, who went 3-1 on this 4-game road trip, return home Wednesday to face nationally-ranked Nebraska-Kearney in a 7 p.m. contest at the Elmen Center.
