The Vikings improved to 8-2 on the season and extended their winning streak to 8 games. Hawaii-Hilo dropped to 0-4.
Augustana utilized a tenacious defense to force the Vulcans into 33 turnovers. In addition, Hawaii-Hilo shot only 29 percent (7 of 24) in the first half.
Augustana never trailed in the game. The Vikings grabbed some early momentum with a 7-0 to open up a 15-7 lead with 14:20 to play in the first half.
With 5:34 left before halftime, Augustana led by 12 at 33-21. But after that, the Vikings closed out the half with 20 straight points to take a 53-21 lead into intermission. Augustana took advantage of the 3-point shot during that stretch, knocking down 4 3-pointers.
The second half was never challenged as the Vulcans never got closer than 26 points. However, Augustana's
Ashley Holiday recorded her third blocked shot of the game to become the Vikings' career leader. She now has 162 blocks, surpassing
Jenn Ibis, who had 161.
Alison Adamson led three Vikings in double figures with 15 points to go along with 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Andrea Walsh scored 14 points, 12 in the first half, while
Jamy Eckstaine tossed in 11 points.
Sheila Azevedo led Hilo with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Amy Kaaiakamanu had 16 points.
Augustana returns home on Tuesday night to play host to Presentation in a 6 p.m. game at the Elmen Center.
