Three Vikings Qualify for NCAA Divsion II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Three members of the Augustana women's track and field team have been selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Division II Track and Field Committee announced today.

Making the field are Mary Stoll, Becky Schulz and Jen Buyske.

Stoll, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., qualified in the 800 meters after turning in the 14th-fastest time in the country this season at 2:11.92. Over the weekend, Stoll won the North Central Conference title in the 800 in a time of 2:12.87. She is looking for her second All-America certificate this season. She was fifth in the 800 meters at the national indoor championships.

Schulz, a junior from Westbrook, Minn., is bidding to be a two-time outdoor All-American in the high jump. She qualified 12th for nationals with a season-best leap of 5-07.00. The recently crowned NCC champion, Schulz was an outdoor All-American in 2004 after tying for fourth place. Schulz is also a two-time indoor All-American.

Buyske, a sophomore from Shelby, Mont., is the defending national champion in the javelin. She qualified 12th for nationals with a season-best mark of 140-09.25. She was second in the javelin at last week's NCC Championships.

A total of 620 participants will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

The championships will be held May 25-27, at Fran Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.
