Andy Ahrendt of Sioux Falls, S.D., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Augustana College and play baseball for the Vikings, Augustana head coach
Jeff Holm announced today.
Ahrendt is a shortstop and pitcher who attends Lincoln High School. He is beginning his second season as a starter for the Patriots as both a shortstop, starting pitcher and relief pitcher.
In addition to playing for the Patriots, Ahrendt also plays for the Sioux Falls Wildcats, a select traveling team. In 2005, the Wildcats won over 50 games and placed third in the nation at the National Baseball Congress national tournament in Topeka, Kan.
“We’re pleased to add Andy to our program,” Holm said. “It’s important for us to try and sign as many good local players as we can. We believe Andy is going to have a very good career at Augustana.”
Ahrendt is the fourth member of the 2006 recruiting class. He joins a class that includes
Drew Heithoff of Yankton, S.D.,
Kenny Lidke of Chaska, Minn., and
Dillon Karras of Denver, Colo.
