Augustana head cross country/track and field coach
Tracy Hellman finished in 127th place out of approximately 34,000 runners at Sunday's New York City Marathon.
Hellman crossed the finish line of the 26.2 mile race in 2:42:09. In addition, Hellman was the 118th male finisher and the 60th U.S. finisher. Hellman also finished ahead of 7-time Tour de France Lance Armstrong, who was 233rd in 2:46:43.
Hellman's finish is impressive considering what it took for him to get to New York City on Saturday. Hellman began the day by coaching the Augustana cross country teams at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships in Vermillion, S.D. He then had to make it back to Sioux Falls to catch a 5 p.m. flight to New York. After a connecting flight in Minneapolis, he arrived in New York City shortly before midnight.
This was Hellman's sixth marathon. He has also competed in marathons in Boston, Chicago, the Twin Cities and Seattle.
