Dragon Open ResultsThe Augustana wrestling team turned in some strong performances Saturday at the Dragon Open in Moorhead, Minn.
The Vikings sent 15 wrestlers to the meet. Seven Vikings competed in the Red Division. Leading the way was
Mike Wubbena, who went 4-1 and finished third at 157 pounds. Wubbena won his first 2 matches before falling in his third match. He bounced back to win his final 2 matches, capped by a pin over Kyle Dukowitz in 5:18 in the third-place match.
Two Vikings placed fifth and two others were sixth.
Jay Sherer went 4-2 at 141 pounds to place fifth. At 184 pounds,
Beau Severtson also went 4-2 and finished fifth.
Andrew Sorenson was sixth at 174 pounds and
Lance Peters placed sixth at 197 pounds.
In the White Division, the Vikings crowned 3 champions out of their 8 wrestlers.
Sid Bice went 3-0 to win the 125-pound title. After a first-round bye, Bice easily won his 3 matches, including an 11-3 major decision over Jason Brill of Concordia College in the finals.
At 133 pounds,
Robert Eklund was first, while teammate
Jason Jeremiason was third. Eklund went 3-0 and pinned Kirk Anderson in 2:58 in the finals. Jeremiason went 3-1 to finish third.
At heavyweight,
Brett LeBrun went 4-0 to capture the title. In the finals he defeated Cody Jamgaard 7-2.
The only other Viking to place was
Matt Morris, who was fourth at 165 pounds.
