Augustana College women's basketball player
Alison Adamson has been named to the
ESPN The Magazine Women's Basketball College Division Academic All-America First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The College Division consists of schools from NCAA Divisions II and III, as well as NAIA schools.
Adamson is a senior point guard from Willmar, Minn. She maintains a 3.99 cumulative grade point average as a history major.
Adamson, an
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team selection in 2005-06, has started all 30 games for the Vikings this season, leading the team to a 25-5 overall record and a 9-3 North Central Conference mark. She leads the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game. She also leads the team in assists (98), steals (74) and 3-pointers (67).
"To receive an award of this magnitude is such an incredible honor," Adamson said. "It is one of those things I never even imagined was possible so it makes it that much more special. So many times people see us athletes strictly as performers in the athletic field. They forget that we put in just as much time, energy and hard work into our classes as well in order to be successful. Academics have always been a top priority to me and so it is nice to be recognized for the commitment and energy I have put into them. After all, we are here, first and foremost, to receive an education. Some of us are just lucky enough to have the opportunity to play sports while we do it."
"Ali is a tremendous competitor combined with outstanding talent," Augustana head coach
Dave Krauth said. "She has improved her game every year at Augie and has become one of the best at our level. Her academic achievements approach perfection. She is truly the epitome of a student athlete."
