Box ScoreThe 13th-ranked Augustana women's basketball team picked up an important North Central Conference road win by defeating Minnesota Duluth 61-49 Saturday afternoon in Duluth, Minn.
The Vikings improved to 22-4 overall and remained in sole possession of second place in the NCC with a 6-2 league mark. Meanwhile, Minnesota Duluth dropped to 13-9 overall and 4-4 in the NCC.
Augustana relied on balanced scoring as 8 players scored at least 4 points. The Vikings shot 48 percent (22 of 46) from the field, while limiting the Bulldogs to 31.5 percent (17 of 54) shooting on their home court.
The game was tied 10-10 with 13 minutes left in the first half when Augustana scored 8 straight points to open an 18-10 lead with 10:24 left in the half.
The Bulldogs rallied to tie the score 20-20, but Augustana closed out the half with a 15-8 run to lead 35-28 at the break.
UMD came out on fire to start the second half, reeling off 11 unanswered points to take its largest lead of the contest at 39-35 with 17:10 to play in the game.
Augustana withstood the barrage by scoring 9 straight points.
Jamy Eckstaine's 3-pointer put the Vikings ahead 44-39 with 12:24 on the clock.
Augustana led the rest of the game as the Bulldogs scored just 10 points the remainder of the way.
Alison Adamson paced Augustana with 14 points.
Amy Puthoff was the only other Viking in double figures with 10 points off the bench.
Ashley Holiday added 9 points and a game-high 6 rebounds while
Andrea Walsh came off the bench to dish out a game-high 7 assists.
Justine Axtell led 3 UMD players in double figures with 14 points, while Katie Winkelman added 13 points and Katy Freeman tossed in 11.
Augustana will be back in action on Thursday when the Vikings travel to Grand Forks, N.D., to take on North Dakota in a 6 p.m. contest
