Wrestling Notes: Five Augustana Wrestlers Go to National Champions

The 14th-ranked Augustana College wrestling team will send five seniors to the NCAA Division II National Championships this weekend in Kearney, Neb. Headed to nationals are Chris Trampe, Austin Scarset, Cody Henriksen, Nate Buys and Ray O’Connor. The national championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 9-10, at the Health & Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Sessions 1 & 2 are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, while Sessions 3 & 4 are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Augustana’s national qualifiers have a wealth of experience and a long list of accolades. Four of them, Chris Trampe, Austin Scarset, Cody Henriksen and Nate Buys are returning national qualifiers, while Scarset, Henriksen and Buys are returning All-Americans. Last year, Scarset, a 2-time All-American, finished fourth at 157 pounds, Henriksen, a 2-time All-American, was fourth at 165 pounds and Buys was seventh at 184 pounds. Buys also was the junior college runner-up at 197 pounds in 2004.

The University of Nebraska-Kearney has constructed a Division II National Championships web site. This web site contains ticket information, tournament schedules, links for updated results and a link for the live webcast of Saturday night’s championship bouts. Fans can check out the web site at www.lopers.com and then look for the Championships logo.

Saturday night’s finals will be televised and available on several national networks. The finals begin at 7 p.m. (CST) and should last until approximately 9:30 p.m.

Networks covering the event live are: Comcast SportsNet West (Northern California), Cox Sports TV (Rhode Island and Connecticut), Catch 47 (Tampa Bay, FL), Metro Sports (Kansas City) and Sports Time Ohio. In the state of Nebraska, the event will be carried live on public television (NETV2).

Other networks are carrying the finals on a tape delay basis. Those networks include Altitude Sports & Entertainment and CSTV (College Sports Television) in this area are Comcast Local (Michigan & Indiana), Cox Sports TV (Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, North Florida), Fox Sports Net North (Minnesota & Wisconsin), Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and Sun Sports (Florida).

Programming Note: Comcast SportsNet West is available on channel 656 on DirecTV and channel 409 on Dish Network. Also, Fox Sports Net North will air the finals on Sunday, March 11, at 1 p.m. (CST).
