Beau Severtson, the Augustana wrestling team picked up a pair of dual victories Tuesday night at the Elmen Center. The Vikings defeated Minnesota West Community College 48-6 and Northwestern 33-10. In the third dual, Northwestern downed Minnesota West 31-18.
The Vikings, aided by 2 forfeits against Minnesota West and 4 forfeits against Northwestern, dominated Minnesota West. After winning 5 of the first 6 matches, Augustana wrestlers registered first-period pins in the final 4 bouts.
Matt Morris pinned Tom Jacobson in 2:25,
Andrew Sorenson pinned Trevor Humphrey in 2:55,
Mitch Lunning pinned Jesse Evans in 1:19 and Severtson capped the dual with a 1:54 pin of Dominick Oliver.
Also winning matches were
Beau Penk, who gained a 6-4 decision over Seth Schlee at 141 pounds,
Brandon Kruger, who scored a 12-2 major decision over Eric Granger at 149 pounds, and
Gavin Nelson, who picked up a 17-2 technical fall over Wade Granger at 157 pounds.
Against Northwestern, heavyweight
Lance Peters put the Vikings on the scoreboard first with a 6-2 decision over Martin Beeler.
The Red Raiders were open at the next 3 weights, giving Augustana 21-0 lead.
Jay Sherer then earned a 6-3 decision over Levi Price at 149 pounds to make the score 24-0.
After another Northwestern forfeit made it 30-0, the Red Raiders earned wins at 165 and 174 pounds to make the score 30-6.
Severtson then won the wildest match of the night. Trailing 11-8 entering the third period, Severtson scord 6 points in the final 46 seconds to come back for a 16-12 win over Cole Spree.
The Vikings will begin North Central Conference action this weekend as they travel to St. Cloud State on Friday and Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday.
