Led by a runner-up finish by Ty Copsey, the Augustana wrestling team finished 14th at the Midwest Classic Saturday at the University of Indianapolis.

The Vikings finished the two-day meet with 40.5 points. Adams State (Colo.) claimed the team title with 142 points after crowning 4 individual champions.

Copsey was Augustana's highest placer. The 197-pounder earned runner-up honors after going 3-1 on the weekend. In Saturday morning's semifinals, Copsey, the No. 2 seed, downed No. 3 seed Kelly Anundson 9-6. However, in the finals, Copsey lost to top seeded Josh Ohl of Ashland 6-3.

The Vikings had 2 other wrestlers in action on Saturday. At 149 pounds, Mike Wubbena settled for sixth place after going 1-1 on Saturday. He defeated Marcus Gordon of Ashland 3-1 in the consolation fifth round before falling to Central Missouri's Kinzie McClain 2-1 in the consolation semifinals. Wubbena then did not wrestle in the fifth-place match because of a medical forfeit.

Beau Severtson, Augie's 184-pounder, dropped 2 close matches to seeded opponents to finish in eighth place. In the consolation fifth round, Severtson fell 3-2 to No. 8 Lucas Haag of . In the seventh-place match, No. 7 Jeremy Hudson of Central Missouri edged Severtson 7-4.

Augustana will have its first home dual of the season on Friday, January 11, when the Vikings entertain Southwest MInnesota State in a 7 p.m. battle.
