In its second and final exhibition game, the Viking men's basketball team defeated Concordia College, Moorhead, 84-65, Saturday night at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. 10 Vikings played at least 10 minutes as head coach
Tom Billeter worked many different lineups into the game.
Augustana shot 60.3 percent (35-of-58) for the game while holding Concordia, Moorhead to 40 percent (24-of-60). Five Vikings finished in double figures in scoring.
Jordan Dalton led the Vikings with 15 points, while Chad Hetterman and
Cody Schilling contributed 13 and 11, respectively.
Mike Klepatz and
Lee Stephens each scored 10 points. Darrin Olmschedi led Concordia with 15 points.
The Vikings opened an early 12-5 lead when Hetterman, who finished 6-of-11 from the field, made a layup on a fastbreak with 15:11 left in the first half. Augie extended the lead to 17 after a made 3-point basket by
Elliot Thomas from a kickout pass by
Lee Stephens at the 11:06 mark.
Concordia, helped by late fouls by the Vikings, clawed its way back into the game and cut the Viking lead to 41-36 at the half after Eric Hartmann made a jumper before the buzzer. Ten Vikings scored in the first half.
The Vikings opened the second half much like the first, closing a 12-2 run with a Hetterman fast break layup from Dalton. After stealing the ball from Concordia, Stephens passed to Dalton who passed back to Stephens for a layup to give the Vikings their biggest lead of 26 at 73-47 with 7:32 left in the game.
