Augustana Track Teams Set School Records at South Dakota Open

School records fell for the Augustana men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the South Dakota Open, held at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. on Saturday.

Lindsey Schultz and Kevin Knapp each set the school record in the weight throw. Schultz's best toss of the day covered 15.62 meters as she finished in second place. Knapp, meanwhile, broke the school record with a distance of 14.59 meters.

Schultz added a second runner-up finish when she placed second in the shot put with a mark of 13.09 meters.

It was also a good day for Bobbi Jo Buyck. Buyck cleared 11-6.0 to establish an NCAA national provisional qualifying mark. She equaled South Dakota's Katie Cerling in terms of height, but Cerling was the event winner based on fewer misses.

The Vikings also claimed wins in the high jump. Becky Schulz won the women's event with a leap of 5-4, while Blake Ridgway was victorious in the men's high jump by clearing 6-2.

In the men's 1,000 meters, Augustana took home the top 3 spots. Dan Black won the race in a time of 2:39.12, while Matt Braithwaite was second in 2:40.54 and Matt Heesch was third in 2:43.44.

Chad Hedgepeth had a busy afternoon. Competing in 3 events, Hedgepeth finished second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.77), fourth in the shot put (11.60 m) and fourth in the long jump (5.88 m).

Five other Vikings added second-place finishes. For the men, Tyler Lynch was second in the shot put with a mark of 14.40 meters and Brian Werner was second in the 800 meters in 1:59.20. For the women, Caitlin Polgreen was second in the 1,000 meters in 3:01.53, Miranda Wagner was second in the mile in 5:17.32 and Mairead Kelly was second in the 3,000 meters in 10:37.16.
