For the third straight week and the fourth time in five weeks this spring, Augustana's
Rachel Stangler has been named the North Central Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the NCC office announced today.
Stangler, a senior from Albany, Minn., had a stellar weekend out in California. She began the week by turning in a time of 10:40 in 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish 12th at the Mt SAC Relays. The only Division II runner in the field, Stangler broke her own school record in the event. She also improved her NCAA automatic qualifying time.
Stangler, a senior from Albany, Minn., was the top Division II runner in the steeplechase field at the Drake Relays and crossed the finish line in seventh place in a time of 10:40.17. The time was slightly better than her previous school record time of 10:40.21 set last week at the Mt. SAC Relays. It is an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It is also the second-fastest time in Division II this year.
Stangler and the rest of the Vikings will have their final tuneup for the NCC Championships this weekend when they compete at the Howard Wood Relays on Friday and Saturday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
