Led by fifth-place finishes from
Travis Beniak in the men's mile and
Annaliese Pepin in the women's 400 meters, the Augustana track and field team posted a dozen top-10 finishes at the Jack Johnson Classic Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn.
Beniak finished the mile in 4:18.44, while Pepin complete the 400 meters in 1:00.18, only 2.7 seconds behind the winner.
Rachel Christiansen and
Noel Bentele posted top-10 finishes in both the women's shot put and weight throw. Christiansen finished eighth in the shot put with a best toss of 38 feet, 3/4 inches and posted a 10th place finish in the weight throw with a best of 41 feet, 3 3/4 inches. Bentele placed ninth in the shot put with a mark of 37 feet, 8 3/4 inches and finished fifth in the weight throw with a best of 47 feet, 11 inches.
Karissa Pepin finished sixth in the high jump with a best jump of 5 feet, 1/2 inch, and her jump of 32 feet, 3 1/2 inches was good enough for 10th place in the triple jump.
LeAnn Severson ran the women's 800 meters in 2:22.94 for 12th place, and
Miranda Wagner placed 11th in the women's 3000 meters in 10:26.66.
Aaron Jung and
Tyler Lynch finished 12th (45 feet, 5 inches) and 13th (44 feet, 1 1/2 inches), respectively, in the men's shot put. Jacob Elmer took 7th in the men's 400 in 52.95, while Sam Quaintance finished 10th in the men's 60 meter hurdles in 9.01 seconds.
Paul Mallory finished the men's 60 meter hurdles in 8.48 and took 8th in the men's 400 in 53.46.
A few Vikings also competed at the Graphic Edge Alumni Invitational at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.
Lauren Cartmill finished 12th in the women's 1000 meters in 3:33, while
Carissa Hotovy took 11th in the women's long jump with a best of 15 feet 4 1/4 inches.
The Vikings will next compete at the Adidas Classic next Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
