Augustana baseball player Nate Baumann was named to the 2010 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseaon All-American Second Team as an outfielder while Bret Severtson was named to the third team as a relief pitcher, the association announced today.

The association's Division II national poll voters and members of  the association's board of directors selected the NCBWA Division II Preseason All-America teams from nominations submitted by sports information directors at NCAA Division II baseball-playing institutions.

Baumann, a junior outfielder from Marshall, Minn., boasted a .347 batting average in 46 games played during the 2009 season. He led the team in slugging percentage (.693) and RBI's (46) and also collected 52 hits and14 home runs. Baumann was also named to the 2009 All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team as well as the 2009 ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region Second team.

Bret-Severtson
Severtson, a junior pitcher from Flandreau, S.D., set a single-season school record in saves in 2009 with seven, and also set a NSIC single-season record with six saves in conference games. His 2.81 earned run average was the best on the Augustana pitching staff, and he collected 16 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched. Severtson was also named to the 2009 All-NSIC Second Team.

The Augustana baseball team will begin the 2010 season on Feb. 7 with a double-header against Rockhurst University at 5 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
