Final Results
The Augustana men's and women's indoor track and field teams shined in the distance events, crowning three individual champions during the second day of the 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships Saturday at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn.
As a result, the Viking women finished fifth in the team standings with 76 points, while the Augustana men finished ninth with 45 points. Minnesota State University, Mankato, captured both team titles. The Maverick women totaled 150 points, while the MSU men garnered 144.5 points.
Highlighting the day for the Vikings were their three NSIC champions. In the 1,000 meters,
Kelly Kougl turned in a personal-best time of 3:03.22 to take medalist honors. The Vikings finished first and second in the 5,000 meters. Miranda Wagner won the event, crossing the finish line in 18:12.47, while teammate
Alyssa Anderson was second in 18:17.13.
The Augustana men crowned one individual champion as
Travis Beniak won the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:31.72. Teammate
Daniel Black finished eighth in 2:48.19. The duo also earned all-conference honors in the mile run. Beniak finished fourth in 4:29.87, while Black was seventh in 4:32.88.
Three Viking women finished in the top 8 of the mile run.
Molly Clark, who finished second in the 3,000 meters on Friday, was third in 5:11.94. Wagner was fourth in 5:12.54 and
Caitlin Polgreen was seventh in 5:16.79.
On the men's side,
Brian Werner,
Paul Mallory and
Aaron Jung turned in top 5 finishes. Werner, who qualified first in the 800 meters, finished fourth in Saturday's finals, recording a time of 1:57.86. Mallory turned in a personal-best time of 7.96 seconds to finish fifth in the 55-meter hurdles. Jung, meanwhile, placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 51-09.25, which is a personal-best mark.
