The Augustana men's and women's indoor track and field teams won eight events and set one school record on a successful day at the Ted Nelson Classic in Mankato, Minn.
Highlighting the afternoon was
Noel Bentele. Bentele set an indoor school record in the weight throw as she won the event with a mark of 52-04.75. She also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 39-05. 75. Also placing in both events was
Rachel Christiansen, who was third in both events.
The Viking women won five other events.
Karissa Pepin won the high jump by clearing 4-11.75. Jessica Butler of North Dakota also cleared that height, but Pepin won the event based on fewer misses.
Augie's other wins came on the track.
Annaliese Pepin turned in a time of 26.53 to win the 200-meter dash, while
LeAnn Severson won the 600-meter run with a time of 1:40.03. In the 800-meter run, Augustana had 3 of the top 4 finishers, highlighted by race winner
Jenny Rogers, who crossed the finish line in 2:20.05.
Megan Erspamer was second in 2:23.52 and
Allison Henke was fourth in 2:24.31.
In the 1,000 meters, the Vikings claimed the top four spots.
Kelly Kougl won the event with a time of 3:06.69.
Molly Clark was second in 3:09.28,
Miranda Wagner was third in 3:13.03 and
Lauren Cartmill was fourth in 3:23.21.
The Vikings also had three placers in the 60-meter dash and mile run. In the 60-meter dash,
Bobbi Jo Buyck was second in 7.99 seconds while
Meagan Grandgenett and
Claire Severson were third and fourth in 8.46 and 8.55 seconds.
In the mile,
Molly Clark was second in a time of 5:11.24.
Miranda Wagner was fifth in 5:1.42 and
Caitlin Polgreen was sixth in 5:22.97.
On the men's side, the Vikings won two events and had two individuals finish second.
Paul Mallory had a strong day for Augustana as he won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.56 seconds. In addition, teammate
Sam Quaintance was third in 8.98 seconds. Mallory and Quaintance also placed in 60-meter dash. Mallory was fourth in 7.42 seconds and Quaintance was fifth in 7.82 seconds.
Daniel Black was the other Viking to win an individual event as he won the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:36.72.
Matt Heesch placed in two running events. He was secondin the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:21.12.
Justin Grassmeyer was third with a time of 9:22.16. Heesch also placed in the mile, turning in a time of 4:43.18.
Kevin Knapp and
Aaron Jung paced Augustana in the throwing events. Knapp was second in the weight throw with a mark of 51-08.50 and seventh in the shot put with a toss of 42-01.25. Meanwhile, Jung was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 45-10.5 and eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 40-10.50.
Both Viking 4X400 teams, as well as the men's distance medley relay team finished in second place.
