Augustana College men's basketball player
Cody Schilling has been named to the Division II Bulletin 2008-09 All-Freshman Team, the monthly newsletter of Division II basketball announced today. Schilling, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Freshman of the Year, is 1 of 10 players named to the team.
Schilling, the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota High School boy's basketball history, started every game this season for the Vikings. He made an immediate impact for the Vikings as he was the team's third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, averaging 11.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
Schilling scored in double figures 18 times this season, including three 20-point outings. His best outing was a 29-point performance at MSU Moorhead on January 9. In that game, Schilling made 7 of 10 field goals, including all three 3-point attempts, and 12-of-14 free throws.
In the NSIC all games statistics, Schilling finished the year ranked second in free throw percentage at 90.4 percent (85-of-94) in addition to being ranked 23rd in scoring (11.1 ppg).
For the season, Schilling shot 51.6 percent from the field (116-of-225), 45.2 percent from 3-point range (28-of-62) and 90.4 percent from the charity stripe (85-of-94). He also averaged 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
The Vikings posted a 21-10 overall record this season and went 13-7 and finished sixth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Augustana advanced to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament for the second consecutive season where the Vikings advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1978. In the regional finals, Augustana fell 73-60 to Southwest Minnesota State.
