Augustana couldn't match its scores from Friday, and as a result, the Vikings finished third at the Augustana Spring Invitational, which concluded Friday at the Brookings Country Club in Brookings, S.D.
A day after 3 golfers set or matched season-best scores, the Vikings failed to have a golfer break 80 on Friday. The Vikings shot 329 on Friday to finish the 36-hole tournament with a team score of 649.
Upper Iowa, which was third after Thursday's opening round, had 3 players shoot under 80 as the Peacocks rallied from a 14-stroke deficit and win the team crown with a 631. First-round leader Concordia-St. Paul finished second at 634. Minnesota State was fourth at 670 while Southwest Minnesota State was fifth at 683.
Kaari Espeland was Augustana's top finisher as she tied for fourth place at 159. She shot an 83 on Friday.
Kelly Lauer joined Espeland in the top 10. Lauer fired an 82 on Friday to tie for seventh place at 160, 1 stroke behind Espeland.
Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt claimed individual medalist honors as she shot a 3-over par 75 on Friday to finish at 155.
Augustana is back in action next Friday when the Vikings travel to Lake City, Minn., to compete in the Minnesota State University Invitational on April 17-19.
